May 2013 meeting notes

We had a really interesting meeting this last weekend, though it was pretty light attendance with all the other activities going on.

Our guest speaker was Emilie Daly who presented a whole new concept of digitally printed fabric. What an amazing new tool we have available! She is a pattern designer for Modern yardage a company here in Salt Lake City that prints fabric on demand. They have a growing online database of fabric designs to choose from in different sizes and colors. Once you choose your fabric it comes printed in just the amount you need for your project. Never run out of a fabric print again! Designs should always be available so if you end up stashing the fabric and find out 2 years later you need more, you just go online and order another piece. YOu can get a fat quarter or 10 yards at a time. The options are really endless.

Check out the website for Modern Yardage here: www.modernyardage.com or visit Emilie's blog here: www.emilydalydesigns.com

Thanks to everybody who gave feedback on HMQS classes and vendors. Ann reported that the show went really well this year and they see great things in their future. We'd especially like to congratulate all of the award winners from our guild.

Check out our website for an updated list of upcoming events and shows for the summer, and we'll see everybody again at the next meeting on July 20th!

HMQS 2013 Was a Success

Now with HMQS over I need to get my mind on our next meeting. It’s this coming Saturday, May 18.

I hope most of you got a chance to attend HMQS.  We are so fortunate to have such a world class show at our door step. I met people from Europe, Australia, Canada and of course all over the US, who had to travel. The quilts for the judged show, also, came from all over the world.

At the meeting we want to share our experiences from the show, classes, teachers, venders etc. with each other.  Bring projects you started in a class or ideas that were shared by teachers & fellow students or great/fun/useful products you found at the vendor mall and share them with us. I was at the show all 3 days and know that I missed things that you found or saw.

Did you see our booth!!! Thank you to all that contributed their Ghastlie items and a special thanks to Kathryn Lindsey for putting it all together in a wonderful fashion. We had TONS of people stopping to talk and take pictures. It was great exposure for our guild.

Emily Daly will be giving us a presentation on digital design and custom digital printing on fabric. I’m looking forward to finding out about this new technique.

Ok, 10am this Saturday at the Handiquilter Warehouse.

See Ya There,
Gaye
