March meeting was a great success!

For those of you who missed our meeting we had a visit from Carmen Geddes who has been a regular teacher at HMQS and won teacher of the year there in 2013. She presented some lovely quilts and gave us some great ideas on appliqué and trying out new techniques with the long arm.

There was also a book review by the president called It's Been Fun Girls on the history of quilting in northern Utah. There is a copy in our library. Here is information if you're interested in your own copy.

Contact: Lisa Duskin-Goede, Coordinator, Bear River Heritage Area 435-713-1426 or lisad@brag.utah.gov. Visit the website for more info.

The Bear River Heritage Area is pleased to announce the completion of a book on the history of quilting and contemporary quilting practices in the seven counties of the region Box Elder, Cache and Rich in Utah; and Oneida, Franklin, Caribou and Bear Lake in Idaho.

The 62 page booklet “It’s Been Fun, Girls. Carry On…” Quilting as a Heritage Art in Northern Utah and Southeastern Idaho, takes its name from the last words of well-loved Cache Valley quilter Millie Olmstead, who died in 2012. It includes a brief history of quilting in the region, seventeen profiles of local quilters, several highlighted quilts, a quilt glossary, a list of quilt shops, and a list of further reading and resources.

Don't forget National Quilt Day coming up this weekend. The Utah Quilt Guild has planned a great event this year!

National Quilt Day will be held on Friday, March 21, from 1 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Legacy Village in Layton.  Our  Guild will host a table at the celebration and we need volunteers to man the table for  one to two hours.  Any time you can  volunteer will be greatly appreciated.

If you ordered Red Glasses they are here and are available. Contact Darlene if you didn't get yours at the meeting, darlene.walker@comcast.net

Handi Quilter is going to be starting a Computerized Quilt Guild on the opposite months of our Long Arm guild meeting.  Their first meeting will be April 26th 10:00 AM  at HQ.

That's it! Happy Spring everyone and we'll see you in a few weeks!
