November Meeting

YES!! We’re having our meeting this Saturday!

Even though the esteemed Ricky Timms is in town, we still need to have our meeting.

We will be having a Guild Trunk Show. Please bring your favorite quilt(s), and tell us why it’s your favorite. We want to concentrate on Christmas quilts, but your favorite is more important. It can be either a quilt you quilted, or a quilt you received of bought from someone else. More than one if you like.

We will also have a discussion on our bylaws.

Don’t forget your potluck refreshments! It is your chance to show off your shopping…er…cooking skills to the rest of us.

We will still be having our regular show and tell, I always get so many good ideas from you all that it’s something I would hate to miss.

I’m sure there will be announcements from many different sources, i.e. Utah Quilt Guild, Quilts of Valor, etc.

We will also have a questionnaire to fill out about what you would like to do in the coming year.

Hope to see you there!

September Meeting

SALT LAKE/OGDEN LONG ARM QUILD GUILD

Date: Sat., September 26, 2015
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Location: Handi Quilter, 501 N 400 W, No. Salt Lake

Please don’t forget our meeting this Saturday!! We're a week off because of Quilt Fest this year.

I hope you all enjoyed Quilt Fest, now we’re ready to dig in for the rest of the year.

Our speaker this month will discuss color theory, so if you have any fabric that you would like help matching color-wise, feel free to bring it so we can discuss it.

Don’t forget your show and tell, along with any problems you solved or difficulties/techniques you mastered to share with us.

Our service project this year is to contribute leftover fabric to the Council, Idaho high school. This may be the last month we take donations for it, so please be generous with your leftovers. Right now we have quite a bit, but they can really use it—I don’t know if you noticed the student quilts at HMQS. They are doing a fabulous job!

Now is the time to start thinking about who will be the guild officers for next year, so please consider helping out. It’s not a matter of knowing more than someone else (boy, do I know that!!), but taking a turn to help us all. I so appreciate all the work from those that have contributed!

See you Saturday!!

July Meeting

Date:  Sat., July 18, 2015 Time:  10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Location:  Handi Quilter, 501 N 400 W, No. Salt Lake

I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer so far! It is our longarm quilt guild meeting this Saturday, so this is a reminder to come!

Our guest speaker will be Luanne Farr, the owner of Winline Batting.  She will be talking to us about how to choose a batting, how to best use a batting, I think she’s planning to make us “batting-y”!

Please bring any show and tell, that is always my favorite part of the meeting.  I thought it would be good if, when you present your show and tell, to let us know how you may haveovercome anything in particular that we can learn from the challenges that you have overcome.

Also anything that you might need help with, as we have some pretty awesome people there.

Also please bring any donations you have for the Council School in Idaho.  I plan to deliver these in October, so we will be taking donations at our July and September meetings.

Thank you to everyone who is so patient with me, and for contributing to the meetings as you do.  I feel privileged to just rub shoulders with you all!

We had lots of fun at our meeting last weekend. We got to tour the new Handi Quilter facility and Vicki Hoth gave us a great overview of TNT (Thread Needle and Tension). It was a great and educational meeting!

A message from Ricky Tims
Hey everybody! I'm very excited about the opportunity to bring the Ricky Tims Super Quilt Seminar to quilters in Salt Lake City and the surrounding region. The seminar is like quilting on “steroids”. I've turned up the excitement by including renowned quilt celebrity and quilting expert Alex Anderson!
  • This two and a half day educational event for quilters is not like any other quilting experience.
  • Expect to come away with more ideas and techniques than you can imagine.
  • There is no sewing, no supply list, and no UFOs to take home.
  • Everyone attends all sessions so you do not have to pick and choose your teachers or classes.
  • Plan to leave the seminar with renewed confidence and enthusiasm.
  • Learn lessons suited for experienced, novice, traditional, and contemporary quilters.
  • Learn simple, efficient techniques and explore the principles for successful original designs.
  • Prepare to have your head spinning with excitement.
I’m so confident you will find this seminar to be worth it to you that I offer a full money back guarantee if you are not satisfied!

National Quilt Day Celebration 2015

Salt Lake-Ogden Longarm Guild March 20-21, 2015

Well, so much is happening this month!!

First I want to finalize everything for the National Quilt Day Celebration.  The celebration that we are taking part in is at Fairfield Village (Formerly Legacy Village), the same place it has been for the last two years.  Dates are March 20 and 21.

At our last meeting I sent around a couple of lists for help, donations, etc.  I just wanted to remind of everyone who signed up of their times.

Friday, March 20
11 a.m.- 1 p.m.                  Nancy Goodwin
1 p.m. – 3 p.m.                  Marsha Ashby, DeAnn Oliekan
3 p.m. – 5 p.m.                  Gaye Ryon
5 p.m. – 7 p.m.                  Connie Eagle

Saturday, March 21
10 a.m. – 12 p.m.             Michelle Noble, Julie Linford
12 p.m.-2 p.m.                  Louise Mudd
2 p.m. – 4 p.m.                  Darlene Walker

It is best to have two people at the same time, so if you would like to sign up for one of the free times, please let me know by email, captionswest@comcast.net.

Lunch will be available at the Fairfield Village, price is $6 each day.  It will be in their dining room, and there is a selection, including a salad bar.  It will not be as before with box lunches.  I MUST have numbers for each day that I can submit by next Monday night.  Please send RSVP on that by email as soon as possible.

We will have a table for our guild, and it would be nice if we had some nice quilts to display in it.  I think this is a great time for any of us who quilt for customers to show off our stuff and get some clientele.  We will also be selling items at our table, so if you would like to donate, also please let me know by email.  Michele Noble signed up for something to donate and sell at our table, and I will be selling small bottles of quilt soap.

So far we have not had anyone except Barbie Mills say they had a quilt to enter in the show.  Our guild can enter up to six quilts, only two of which can be more than 65x65 aggregate circumference.  (260 inches)  The names of the piecer and quilter will be displayed.  If you have a quilt you wish to enter in the quilt show, contact Gaye Ryon, she will be spearheading that.

We also have the opportunity to enter mini-quilts for sale, the money will come in to our guild.  Those who signed up for that are Cory Weir, Chris Robinson, Carolee Jensen, and Debbie Burrows.
Last, but certainly not least, I would like to have a list of our guild members who quilt for customers available to give out at the celebration.  If you would like your name included, please either send contact information, or a scan of your business card.  I would like to get as many on there as possible.

Now for OUR MEETING THAT HAS BEEN CHANGED TO MARCH 28TH!  Please note the change in date!  The meeting will be at Handi-Quilter, 10 a.m.  Our Handi-Quilter ladies will be taking charge of the meeting, teaching their TNT seminar (Thread, Needles, Tension).  Even if you have seen this before, it is worth the review!  We will also be taking a tour through their new facility, and there will be an opportunity to shop for Handi-Quilter items.  This will be a really great meeting, so please don’t forget to come the next week after the National Quilt Day Celebration.

Bookcase Quilt

Hi, I hope everyone had a happy and prosperous new year! I was just out surfing around Pinterest and found a link to this quilt story. It's amazing! What a fun way to showcase someone's life!

Here is some information about her inspiration: "A book called The Collectibles Quilt by Wendy Etzel, 1995, RCW, got me started with the idea of a photo transfer bookcase quilt, and I took off from there."
