Previous Meeting History

Previous Meeting History:

July 2012:
We had a great meeting last weekend. We had amazing food, a great show and tell with quilted and un-quilted tops, an excellent lesson on accounting by Katheryn and there were some really cool gadgets shown. My favorite was the spirograph tool. Worth checking out! Our president Val also showed us how to add a binding to our quilts on the longarm. If you want a quick review you can see a video on www.kimmyquilts.com. Click on her blog. Thank you to all of the guild members who were willing and able to take a quilt top to do for Phoenix Quilts. You can visit their website at www.phoenixquilts.blogspot.com for info on how to return the quilts - or bring them to the next meeting in September.

May 2012:
We reviewed the classes at HMQS and congratulated ribbon winners. We also talked about some of the new gadgets presented at the show. HMQS gets more amazing every year!

March 2012:
We're gearing up to help at HMQS, so many of the volunteer opportunities were covered in the meeting. We also heard from Diane Jaeger on her background and how she got involved in the Quilts of Valor project for our injured troops and veterans. We got some pointers from Deon Scott who will be teaching at HMQS this year, and learned of some great gadgets from Cory Weir on thread tension and set-up.

She shared a number of tips and tricks, and encouraged us to practice and experiment, we all have it in us to become master quilters. Guild members were encouraged to volunteer at the coming HMQS quilt show, and to take advantage of one of the many charity quilt options. Mindy Kirton also reviewed the new guild website and features. If you liked the macaroon cookies from the treat table, mixes are available at Alison's Pantry, just add water! Alison's Pantry, Pleasant Grove, UT

Guest Speaker Susan Davis went through the background, origin and steps it takes to needle punch small designs. Needle punching giving depth to block designs in quilts. The simplicity of using panel prints and accenting small details in the work. She also introduced us to mini quilt stands. Congratulated our winners from Quilt Fest, Houston International, and the SLC Masonic Temple Quilt Show.Special Thanks to Donna Sine for her work on the BDAC Holiday Show on November 19.

Quilts on the Corner specializes in t-shirt quilts and we got some pointers. She also suggested sewing measuring tape on the canvas for easy-to-set-up use. Congratulations to our County and State Fair ribbon winners!
