January Meeting Notes

We had a great meeting in January with a Hawaiian Theme. Julie
Kaleikini and Pauline Vogel gave us a wonderful program on the history
and traditional construction of Hawaiian quilts along with a trunk show
of their quilts. They usually teach at Morman Handicraft and quilt
shows in Utah such as Quilt Fest, if you want more info.

Some of us dressed in our “Hawaiian Tourist” apparel, we had a vote
and awarded a prize for the best. Our refreshments reflected the
Hawaiian theme too.

We recognized the members who made 2012 a success, especially Val
Gines, who did a flawless job as our President. Then the new board:
Gaye Ryon, President, Darlene Walker, President elect & Cindy Stokes,
Sec/Treasure were introduced. Kathryn Lindsey will continue giving us
her wonderful education sessions and DeAnn Oliekan will also continue
as our Librarian. We had reports from the Utah Quilt Guild, HMQS, the
kids from Idaho.

Kathryn Lindsey, after getting lei’d when she arrived, gave us a lesson
on S(i)TDs! Using Stitch in the Ditch really makes piecing and
applique motifs pop. She gave us ideas on techniques and different
rulers.

We discussed having a display book at our booth at HMQS to show off
our work and promote our businesses by area. If you want to be part of
this bring an 8x10 picture of a quilt or a collage of quilts, your business
card and maybe your price list or an info page on your business.
A few new things to look forward to is our birthday basket, meeting
challenges and a year-end drawing that you will put your name in for a
for each show and tell you bring to meetings.

We voted to change the date for March’s meeting to the 9th because
many of our members are participating in National Quilt Day festivities.

On the 9th, Bring your favorite work apron. We will have a fashion show
and vote on the best apron. Extra points if you have one made of
“Ghastley Fabric” to wear in our HMQS Booth. If you have ideas for
“tips, tricks and favorite tools” bring them or email them to me (I’ll
include them in the agenda)

Our program on the 9th will be on Computerized Quilting, given by the
Handiquilter girls.

In an effort to get to know each other better, Mindy Kirton, our
webmaster, will be taking your picture as you arrive, for a group
directory.

See ya then,
Gaye
